Imagine a team of US Navy Seals working on your projects, what would you expect your project be as planned?

The US Navy Seals have gained the reputation of being the one of the world's premier special operations forces. To become a Navy Seals, you must first go through what is widely considered to be the most physically and mentally demanding military training in existence. Then comes the tough part: the job of essentially taking on any situation or foe that the world has to offer.

Everything in training is designed to push you to your physical and mental limits. If you’re up to the task, you’ll emerge in incredible physical shape and possess the necessary confidence, determination and teamwork to succeed in a combat environment. When there’s nowhere else to turn, Navy SEALs are in their element. Achieving the impossible by way of conditioned response, sheer willpower and absolute dedication to their training, their missions and their fellow spec ops team members.

I've been a longtime fan of the Navy SEALs, and in my constant search for inspiration to implement work culture and leadership change, I felt they could be a superb group to learn from.

Meticulous planning One of the greatest lessons that can be learned from Navy SEALs is their skill of being highly effective and meticulous planners and schedulers. They focus on the importance of time management, on-target execution, and completing the mission. They operate with a backup and contingency plan in place for almost every scenario. One of the most practical skills taught in this branch is clear and direct communication.

Clear expectations Navy SEALs focus on a very clear set of objectives, where significant importance is placed on defining the goal and motivating the team to follow. Even with highly complex operations, each SEAL has a clearly defined role, and expectations can be recited by each team member.

In a project to be successful requires a good compelling plan, a realistic schedule prepared by a well-seasoned professional. SKED (a.k.a. SCHEDULE) if combined with a SEAL’s work ethics, drive and motivation will surely lead to a successful project.

“It pays to be a winner!” - US Navy Seals.
